In a glittering ceremony held during the third annual convention of the Indian Florist Association on August 2, 2018, Mr. Daman Anand, veteran florist, path breaker and a visionary from India’s highly successful florist Diaspora, received an Award of Excellence. The annual convention was held on August 1 and 2 at the glitzy Four Points by Sheraton, New Delhi, located on the Airport Highway. The award was bestowed on Mr. Anand by Ms. Tania Ruth Huyghe, an internationally acclaimed floral designer and flower industry strategist from Belgium. Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Huyghe complimented the more than 200 florists who had gathered from all over India. She remarked that the growth in India’s blooming flower industry, especially at the point of sale level, had merely touched the proverbial iceberg and the potential for growth was phenomenal to say the least.
Mr. Anand received the award for his notable contributions to platform technology integration also referred to by members as the Floripal Panel. Not only did he work tirelessly to transform the platform from dream to concrete reality, but also inspired many florists located in remote and far flung parts of India to sign up for the platform and participate actively in the revolution taking place within the flower space. Mr. Anand also produced a full spectrum of training videos to enable the technologically unsophisticated to leverage the platform which seamlessly enables florists from all over India to take orders successfully for destinations beyond their immediate jurisdictions. “It is not just the award but the spirit behind the award not to mention the recognition that accompanies it that has given me immense satisfaction both professionally and personally,” Mr. Anand said.

For Mr. Anand, striving to enhance the Floripal platform continuously is a given. He solicits feedback from platform users on an ongoing basis, interfaces with the technical team, and ensures that all viable suggestions receive their rightful place on the roster for subsequent implementation. He is also actively involved in all the testing phases of the platform thus ensuring that the platform hums flawlessly and helps florists deliver feelings and sentiments beyond their borders. Mr. Anand is himself a full-time florist and Just Flowers, a retail flower outlet in Janakpuri, Delhi, is his own creation. As a robust user of the platform himself, Mr. Anand is fully knowledgeable of the needs of his industry colleagues and capable of addressing them to their satisfaction right down to its minute nuances.
Mr. Anand was also invited to accompany Ms. Huyghe to the wholesale flower market in Delhi, considered to be Asia’s largest wholesale flower marketplace. During the guided tour, Mr. Anand introduced her to many of the city’s leading flower wholesalers who extended Ms. Huyghe a cordial and warm welcome. Many pictures were taken to capture everlasting memories. Ms. Huyghe also conducted two four hour workshops during the convention and enthralled the audience with highly attractive and original floral designs as well as arrangements. All materials were sourced locally thus adding a new dimension to her impressive artistic talent. This was her second visit to India with many more hopefully in the offing, she remarked effusively.
